This is the second of three workshops on money management. Our first money management workshop helped students learn how to balance their income and their outgo for expenses. This workshop introduces the next step: learn how to look beyond this week and this month and begin a lifelong journey of moving beyond just getting by financially, and setting up a plan to thrive, not just survive.
Students will learn new gospel-centered tools and approaches to look further out and begin the journey to eventual financial independence. Taking advantage of the power of positive interest (interest you receive from having your money work for you), and making small sacrifices today will help students be prepared for financial emergencies and build savings that will give single students more financial security, while addressing the needs of that married students and families with children will face. Students will learn how to achieve financial independence over time, so as they eventually approach retirement, they will have the ability to sustain themselves and their families without requiring income from employment.
This second workshop will be taught by Elder Ronald Blood, who has worked as a financial manager and investment portfolio manager for major financial companies, and currently serves as a full-time missionary in Academic Commons and teaches the Student Development 101 class.
